There Is No Place Like Home...

So for those of you that don't already know I have moved back to my home town.  So I thought I would post some pictures of the notable sights around where I grew up

Every tour of American Falls, Idaho must start with the old granary that is out in the middle of the American Falls Reservoir.  The granary is the most visible reminder that American Falls is not currently in its original location.  When the decision was made that a dam and hydroelectric power station would be built on the Snake River one problem was that the original town location would be flooded by the new reservoir.  The Federal Government moved every building to its current location but this building was too tall and too heavy to move, so several attempts were made to demolish the granary.  Soundly defeated by superior construction the decision was made to leave it.  It is now the symbol of our town.

Another notable location is the Old Power House.  This is where the first hydroelectric turbines were housed and behind that is the new power station.

Electricity continues to be a strong part of the identity of American Falls.

Farming continues to be the backbone of our community and these are just a few of the many storage facilities used for the myriad of agricultural products grown in the region.

Below the American Falls Dam the Snake River continues its journey mostly westward where it will eventually join the Columbia River on its way to the Pacific Ocean.

And of course with this much water around pelicans are sure to be near by.
