Cherish the Child

Recently I was asked to photograph a very neat event.  It was the Cherish the Child walk held each year near Lake Breckenridge.  It was formed to bring people together that have lost children.

It was a very somber event but there was also a tangible sense of healing in the air.  Many people shared their stories of loss, struggle, and eventual peace.  The variety of faces and expressions made this a great event to shoot.  You can see the stories in their eyes.

The Cherish the Child event was also a time for families to gather and share those stories...

Or simply reflect...

At the end of the evening everyone released balloons into the air and flowers into the river in memory of their loved ones.

Duck. Duck...

I have not had a lot of time to go out and shoot so I thought I would pull some pictures out of the archive.  What I found is that I have a ton of pictures of ducks.
Here are just a few.

I once read an article that said that anything with a duck in it was not art.  I guess that paintings of ducks are the stuff of "country chic" and postage stamps, but for a photography subject they are great for several reasons.

They are covered in amazing colors that you can't really find anywhere else.

Their feathers have stunning detail.

And as far as animals go they are very patient.  They sit still much longer than other birds and their camouflage isn't so bad either.

Middle of the Day

I have posted a couple of times about the spectacular natural beauty in the Upper Midwest in the morning and the evening.
But there are times during the middle of the day that are just as amazing.

Here it is in black and white:

The fishing was a bit slow today, but there were other animals to watch, including the Minnesota state bird, the loon.

And just because the colors are so stunning, sunrise still amazes me. So here is another look at the morning on Star Lake in Minnesota.
